Cox Bay Beach Lookout

For the longest time we didn't know about the Cox Bay Beach lookout. We thought that there must be a way up through the forest but we weren't sure. Google map helped us though when I zoomed in and found a marker for it. It took a bit but we found the trail - or a trail anyway. We think that there is a more gradual trail than the death march we take but once we found it we figured it was the way to go.

Derek and Cassia found the trail first but didn't have a camera that day. Derek and I went up again and then Derek and Cassia made the trek. So I went once, Derek and Cassia twice and Derek about five or six times as he made it up several times while Cassia and I were homeschooling.

The pics below are our collection of our Cox Bay Beach Lookout trips.

A quick first picture as we begin our ascent.

Just getting going. Little did I know what we were in for. My mind said yes but my body not so much.

Much of the trail involved this! No wonder I was seeing stars half way through!

Ok look! There's me with my butt on the ground! Nice of Derek to get it on film. I actually took a few spills on this hike. Darn.

Ultimately the pictures betray me because it was STEEP! But you can't tell that on here.

Not many pictures along the way - I didn't want to stop of fear of not getting going again!

We made it to the top! It was so worth it!
Neat to look at our beach - Cox Bay - from up here. If you look directly across and a little to the left - that is the boardwalk point that we go to frequently.

See that Island centre right - with a bit of a beach attaching it to the coast? Later in the post I'll show you pics from that Island. When we stayed in Tofino in 2018 we walked Chesterman Beach and could get to that Island at low tide.

From the place in the last picture we walked south through the trees a bit to another look out. Looking southwest here.

Derek looking like he belongs up here.

A rare pic of Derek and I .....

taken by a tree!

Not a bad place to sit for a spell.

It was a muddy slippery affair coming down.

Back at the beach!

Here's Derek taking a selfie a few days later making the trip up by himself.

And now Cassia and Derek taking on the trail together for the second time.

Father and daughter.

Cassia took a bunch of selfies.

The not so great part of the trail but at least there was a rope! This is Cassia going down but you needed the rope for both directions. We kept forgetting to take a photo at this point so glad they did!

No more pics of the trail. They took this one on the beach as they had to run and jump onto a log as the tide was coming in.

The last time Derek made it to the lookout was in the snow that we had near the end of December.

A totally different look in the cold, snow and fog.

Back in mid January 2019 we were also in Tofino! Remember I mentioned the Island in the picture above on Chesterman Beach - well here it is from the ground.

One of my favourite pictures - I always feel like I'm looking in a whale eye.

You can only get to the Island at low tide.

Back then one of Cassia's favourite pass times.

As mentioned in an earlier post - we enjoyed some of the best sunsets we've ever experienced.

Meanwhile back in mid January of 2020 .....

We were watching the Javelina at Choke Canyon State Park, Texas.

The birds around our campsite were amazing!

Cassia and Derek even got in some basketball.

After a week or so there it was off further west. If you are a long time follower of A Life Made Simple ...

you might recognize with place. One of our favourite places in the USA! We were here back in 2014 and 2015. Go look if you haven't seen our visits to Langtry - they are the best!

If you look back at the 2014 post you can see Neally (Neal now) and Cassia when they first met and became friends. In that picture they were both 5 - here they are at 10 with Neal's sister Haley.

And .... last year mid January 2021 we were exactly where we are now! Same site at Pacific Playground.

Our back deck. Unfortunately, the weather this last week here hasn't been as nice as it was last year at this time. I've yet to take a picture.

I took this picture from the point while we were walking the boys. Our site it across from the marina which we like.

Cassia hanging out with Peach.

Well, I can't say we aren't missing our site and beach in Tofino! However, with the tsunami warning yesterday we are glad not to be there. We don't think there is any damage but the stress of the warning wouldn't have been great.

Next post we'll show you more pictures of Tofino in the snow which isn't very common for that area. It was nice to have a white Christmas however!

Thanks for reading!
Teresa
