After a busy week at Coombs it was time to head to our destination for the next two months. Since we knew that a section of the road was closed from 11 am to 3 pm we had to be a bit strategic with our travel plans. As such we didn't rush in the morning and in fact didn't leave until around 10:00am.
We didn't really have far to go but having done this route once before we knew it would take the day. The road from Port Alberni to the Tofino/Ucluelet 'T' is slow going and definitely not my favourite. I know - my 'not so favourite' trips are adding up. But truly I put this route up with the Million Dollar Highway in Colorado that we took in 2014 as being my two least favourite routes to take!
This trip, as with the one in Colorado, worked out and the reward of the trip and destination always makes it worth it!
Here's how our day went down.
Somewhere between Coombs and Port Alberni.
Our route for the day - Coombs to Port Alberni - PA to the Campground. The two hour trip took us six. From 10 am to 4 pm!
Pretty curvy much of the time along the lake.
Passing through Cathedral Grove and MacMillian Provincial Park. Worth a stop without the rain and a trailer.
This is now on the other side of Port Alberni. We stopped for an hour or so to stock up on supplies knowing that some items are hard to get in Tofino/Ucluelet.
It was a rainy day - it varied in amount but it didn't stop.
Our view for about an hour. We arrived at the construction closure around 2:30pm not realizing that it wouldn't be until 3:30pm that our lane was able to go through.
Pretty slow going - if you can believe we went through this construction back in 2018 as well!
And look! Our site for two months. I didn't take any pictures from the construction area to our park.
Not sure why...
And our beach for two months! Once we set up it was time to check out it out.
Glad to see it is a deeper beach than MacKenzie beach where we were the last time we were in Tofino in 2018.
It didn't take long for Cassia to go exploring. She was happy to see that there were rocks to climb.
So happy to be on THE west coast even in the rain which of course is only the first of many.
Meanwhile, back in 2018 on December 4th on the east side of Vancouver Island .......
We were having a nice day in Oyster River where Pacific Playground RV Resort is located.
Someone was happy to visit Big Foot Donuts!
Doing what the Wood Clan does best - visiting yet another brewery. This one is Beach Fire Brewing in Campbell River - one of our favourites!
Doing the tourist thing.
And in 2019 ....
we were touring around Abilene, TX for the day.
We love trains of any size!
Later, Cassia received her Junior Ranger badge from Abilene State Park.
One of our favourite things about Abilene State Park were the armadillos!
Well, we have finally caught up with where we are now - just south of Tofino.
From here you'll be seeing a whole lot of beach pictures because really that's about all we do when we are outside. For us, each walk on the beach is different - the weather, the temperature, the amount of people, the debris, the tide and so I keep taking pictures. You may agree or you may see just another beach picture! We have been on a few trails in the area and we go to either Tofino or Ucluelet every few days for supplies.
Next up, more pictures of the beach! This time with blue sky!
